Just One State

I received an email today that sent me on a 3 hour google chase for facts. Snopes had covered most of the claims but used data that seemed old from my perspective. Trying to find current information wasn't as easy as I expected. The results though, were interesting.

If this doesn't open your eyes nothing will !

What you find out when you DO open your eyes!

The Claims:

The Results of my research:

From the L. A. Times

Not from the LA Times (Snopes)

1. 40% of all workers in L. A. County ( L. A. County has 10.2 million people)are working for cash and not paying taxes. This is because they are predominantly illegal immigrants working without a green card.

1. On average, illegal households pay more than $4,200 a year in all forms of federal taxes. Unfortunately, they impose costs of $6,950 per household.
However, Social Security is not considered a tax so those monies are not included. Illegals (who cannot collect SS) are now providing the system with a subsidy of as much as $7 billion a year.

A 1995 Cato Institute study found that illegal immigrants paid approximately 46 percent as much in taxes as American-born citizens, but they received only 38 percent as much from the government. NCPA

2. 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens. 2. 95% of all OUTSTANDING warrants for homicide in the first half of 2004 targeted illegal aliens. These warrants are persued by the Foreign Prosecution Unit (FPU) which clears only 1/3 of it's cases. In reality, 2/3 of all homicide cases in LA are cleared. (UC Davis study of immigration issues)
3. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens. 3. The LA police Department's Most Wanted list is viewable online. Immigration status or nationality is not included in the information. (LA PD online)

4. Over 2/3 of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal , whose births were paid for by taxpayers.

4. 62% of all births in Los Angeles County are to Hispanics - legal and illegals. (California Vital Records Department)

5. Nearly 35% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally

23% of inmates in COUNTY jails are deportable aliens, not just Mexican nationals. (L.A. County Sheriff's Department)

6. Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in garages.

huh?
7. The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border. No one knows the percentage of illegals in gangs but one gang - the 18th Street Gang is approximately 60% illegal. (California Department of Justice)

8. Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal.

You mean HUD garages?

9. 21 radio stations in L. A. are Spanish speaking.

18 radio stations feature spanish language broadcasts including all formats (music, news, talk, religion and sports) out of 80 radio stations that can be heard in L.A. Note that 3 of these stations are actually located in Mexico. There are also 2 "Ethnic" stations and 6 "Asian" stations. Radio formatting changes on a regular basis so exact numbers are out of date practically by the time you add them up. (Radio Locator)

10. In L. A. County 5.1 million people speak English, 3.9 million speak Spanish.
(There are 10.2 million people in L. A. County. )

Generally, U.S. Hispanics (13.4% of the 2002 population) are bilingual to a degree. A Simmons Market Research survey recorded that 19 percent of the U.S.'s Hispanic population speak only Spanish, 9.0 percent speak only English, 55 percent have limited English proficiency, and 17 percent are fully English-Spanish bilingual.

Nearly 1-in-5 people, or 47 million U.S. residents age 5 and older, spoke a language other than English at home in 2000, the U.S. Census Bureau said. That was an increase of 15 million people since 1990 (www.census.gov)

A breakdown by state shows That in California 3,577,653 Native born residents spoke spanish and 4,527,852 Foreign born residents spoke spanish. (http://www.census.gov/)

Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops, but 29% are on welfare.

This number, if ever true, is not current. The 1996 federal welfare reform law, All immigrants are barred from TANF for their first five years in the country unless they become citizens, can demonstrate 40 qualifying quarters of work in the U.S., or meet the five year or military exemptions (www.ncsl.org/) A child born in the United States to an illegal alien obtains U.S. citizenship at birth regardless of the parents immigration status and, as any other citizen in need, may receive welfare and other benefits. In other words - a citizen of this country as much as you or I

A 1997 GAO report determined that in 1995 (before the welfare reform) households headed by illegal aliens received a total of $700 million in AFDC benefits and $430 million in Food Stamps.

Over 70% of the United States' annual population growth (and over 90% of California, Florida , and New York) results from immigration.

90% is correct if you remember it includes legal and illegal immigrants. Without foriegn immigration, California would have virtually zero population growth.

29% of inmates in federal prisons are illegal aliens.

4 - 7 % of the American prison populations are noncitizens. Google Books
