Political Courage

Democratic candidate Barak Obama stepped out on a very dangerous limb Father's Day. While the 50% of white children and 80% of black children who will live in a single family home at some point in their life can't vote - the absentee fathers do.

Politicians by their very nature don't tackle subjects that will embarrass the voting blocks that they need to win an election. Obama's courage to address such a fundamental problem is one of many shining examples of real heroism.

What was interesting in his Father's Day address is that he tackles a subject that has historical and economic tragedies as a cause but requires individual commitment as a solution. While we have a system that needs to be fixed, no goverment directive, tax policy or law can make men be good fathers. Each man has to decide on his own that the struggle and sacrifice is necessary in his life.

This particular issue resonates in so many lives but the issue isn't the point. We need to start speaking and listening to the truth even when it pushes our buttons.

Speak the truth - start the revolution.
