Gas Prices aren't going up...
Oops! You didn't know that? Oh sure, you are paying $4.50 + per gallon. Costs a lot more to commute to work doesn't it? Uh-uh. The problem isn't the price of gas - its the value of our dollar. One dollar won't buy as much gas because it's worth less! The side story is that gas prices can't come down until we stop using it. As long as we are willing to pay more no gas station will charge less. It's all up to you and me.
There are much bigger issues though. The dirty little secret is out. Global climate change is real and it's bad. And yeah, a few volcanoes will spew more pollutants into the air than all our cars, heaters, factories can - but can you do anything about your local volcano? I'll bet you can turn off a light bulb or combine your trips into town.
I believe in a self-correcting universe so its probably no coincidence that energy prices are hurting us just when we are approaching the point of no return on our environment. Since the planet can't afford the way we burn fossil fuels - we are lucky that you and I are getting to the point where we can't afford to burn them!
The State of Energy

| Sustainable Energy for real change |
Before you decide I'm some lefty, pinko-commie let me assure you that I have NO intention of living some mountain-mama, wilderness-family experience. I find no romance in dirty clothes, cold water or unemployment. I like my vacuum cleaner and a mowed lawn. My dream car (which I don't own BTW) gets 16 mpg.
What is important is that as Americans we are resiliant and capable of coming up with the best ideas and technologies ever invented. If we decide to change something that doesn't work - we get it done. The State of Energy isn't working for us or for our planet so come on folks, giddy-up, let's get er done.

Over the next few weeks we'll be adding information for all 50 states. Starting with an overview of energy consumption, production and potential this state by state resource should help us all figure out where we are now and what's possible in the near future. As always, we will be giving kudos to the states making the most positive change and sharing that information so we can all learn.
